Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Resumes

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from June through August

New Delhi: Following successful negotiations with China, India on Saturday announced that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will reopen this year from June through August. The pilgrimage — suspended since 2020 amid border tensions — takes devotees to the sacred Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in Tibet.

Under the Ministry of External Affairs’ scheme, five batches of 50 pilgrims each will travel via Uttarakhand’s Lipulekh Pass, and 10 batches of 50 via Sikkim’s Nathu La Pass. Applications are now open at
kmy.gov.in
, with yatris chosen through a computer-generated, random, gender-balanced draw.
The MEA reiterated that, since 2015, the entire application and selection process has been fully computerized, negating the need for letters or faxes. A feedback option on the website allows applicants to seek information or suggest improvements.
This decision follows the January agreement reached during foreign secretary Vikram Misri’s Beijing visit and builds on last October’s military disengagement pact in Ladakh.
