SRINAGAR: The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), an intelligence wing of the J&K police, on Friday raided multiple locations across Kashmir Valley as part of the concerted effort to destroy the terror ecosystem.

The CIK said that during searches it recovered and seized incriminating material, including sim cards, mobile phones, tablets and other digital devices.

The raids and subsequent searches were conducted at different locations in Budgam, Pulwama, Kupwara, Shopian, and Srinagar districts of the Valley. The action followed the investigation in a case of terrorism already registered with the CIK police station, it said.

A statement issued by the CIK said, “The suspects were found using suspected encrypted messaging applications. During further analysis, various individual suspects were found using a 'specific encrypted messaging application' which is widely used by terrorists and handlers from across the border for coordinating and executing a variety of terrorist related activities including recruitment into terrorist ranks".

It added that these individuals and users are suspected to be in touch with suspicious entities across the border and, as such, maintaining the element of surprise, the searches were meticulously planned and conducted.

"Analysis of the data (obtained from the seized incriminating material, including, sim cards, mobile phones, tablets and other digital devices) would follow and leads that would emerge would become the basis for further investigation", the statement said.

The CIK claimed that the operation is aimed at “uncovering crucial evidence, curbing illicit activities, preventing the misuse of communication devices, such as mobile phones, and dismantling the terror ecosystem in J&K by identifying terrorist associates supporting and abetting terrorism”.
