Jharkhand High Court Halts Job Cancellations

Interim relief benefits around 2,000 employees as court cites principles of natural justice

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday stayed notifications cancelling the appointments of Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) and recruitments made through the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission-Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination.

A bench of Justice Deepak Roshan granted interim relief on the ground of principles of natural justice. The order brought relief to around 2,000 employees recruited through the JSSC-CGL examination.

The state government will file its counter-affidavit by September 7, while the petitioners have been asked to submit their rejoinder by September 14. The court will hear the matter on September 15 and indicated that, if necessary, it could conduct day-to-day hearings from September 16.

The court had on Thursday stayed notifications cancelling the 11th and 13th Jharkhand Public Service Commission examinations as well as appointments of food safety officers.

The JMM-led government had on August 18 cancelled 22 recruitment examinations and ordered probes into 23 others conducted since 2014 amid protests over alleged irregularities.
