Jana Sena’s Dalli Govind Is Deputy Mayor Of GVMC

The Telugu Desam Party already holds the GVMC mayor post, and the deputy mayor seat was allotted to Jana Sena.

VISHAKAPATNAM: Jana Sena corporator Dalli Govind Reddy was unanimously elected as the deputy mayor of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), in a special meeting held on Tuesday. His nomination was proposed by MLA Ganababu and seconded by MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju. Joint collector cum presiding officer K. Mayur Ashok confirmed that a quorum of 59 corporators was met and thereafter Reddy was elected unanimously.

The Telugu Desam Party already holds the GVMC mayor post, and the deputy mayor seat was allotted to Jana Sena. Although the election was initially scheduled for Monday, it was postponed due to the lack of quorum following the absence of TD corporators.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan congratulated Govind Reddy on his elevation to the post of deputy mayor. Commending his dedication to party's principles and policies, he said, Reddy made consistent efforts to solve public issues and expressed confidence in his ability to improve the infrastructure and stand by the people.

TD state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivas acknowledged that “coordination challenges” led to the postponement of the election. He revealed that TD held the deputy mayor's post until midnight on Sunday, and many were surprised when the position shifted to Jana Sena. However, he noted that discussions on Monday helped in stabilising the situation.

On the other, Govind Reddy expressed gratitude to his supporters, stating that his recognition underscores the value of hard work within the Jana Sena. He vowed to prioritise the development work as well as addressing the civic concerns.

Meanwhile, YSRC corporators were absent from the meeting. They travelled to Vijayawada for discussions with their party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy. Jana Sena MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas accused YSRC of attempting to malign the coalition government and announced plans for an investigation into alleged irregularities in the GVMC.
