Insect Found in Meal on Vande Bharat Express; Railways Responds
Passenger spots black insect in daal on July 22 New Delhi Vande Bharat train, shares photo online prompting criticism of food hygiene

A passenger travelling on the Vande Bharat Express from New Delhi on July 22, 2025, discovered a black insect in the meal served onboard, triggering a wave of criticism over food hygiene and safety standards maintained by Indian Railways.
The insect was found in a portion of daal served in an aluminum container. The passenger took to social media to share a photo of the contaminated food, prompting strong reactions from users and calls for accountability. The post quickly went viral, with several users tagging railway officials and questioning the quality of catering on one of India’s premium trains.
In response, Indian Railways issued a public apology and requested the passenger’s details to investigate the matter thoroughly and take corrective action. “This is not the standard we strive to maintain. We regret the inconvenience caused and have sought the passenger’s information to look into the issue,” a senior Railways official said.
The incident has reignited concerns over onboard catering, even as the Railways continues to upgrade services across premium trains like the Vande Bharat.
