Indore Water Contamination: 203 Hospitalised; Congress, BJP Workers Clash, MP Bandh on Jan. 11

The IMC on Saturday supplied drinking water in 50 tanks in the affected areas even as work to restore the normalcy in pipe water supply is in full swing, officials said.

Bhopal: As many as 203 patients, victims of water contamination in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, are still undergoing treatment in 41 hospitals in the city, officials said on Saturday.

Of them, 43 have been admitted to the intensive care units (ICUs), according to Indore district collector Shivam Verma.

The official death toll due to the water contamination has meanwhile increased from four to six.

However, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) mayor Puspmitra Bhargav told the media persons on Friday that the locals informed him that ten people died due to water contamination.

State Congress president Jitu Patwari however put the death toll at 16.

Meanwhile, Bhagirathipura, the epicenter of the water contamination tragedy , on Saturday witnessed a clash between workers of Congress and BJP when the ruling party members tried to deny entry of a team of Congress leaders.

A team of Congress leaders led by former minister Sajjan Verma arrived in Bhagirathipura to probe the water contamination deaths by visiting the affected families.

However, BJP workers resisted their entry into the area by showing them black flags while calling them outsiders, leading to a clash between the workers of both the parties.

Later, the Congress leaders were taken into police custody.

In another development, Mr. Patwari on Saturday announced that the Congress would observe statewide bandh on January 11 demanding resignation of state urban administration minister Kailash Vijayvargiya for the Indore tragedy.
