Indore Couple Goes Missing In Meghalaya, Massive Search Op Launched

BHOPAL: A newly married couple from Indore in Madhya Pradesh has gone missing since May 24 while on honeymoon in Meghalaya, triggering the local police and other agencies to launch a massive search operation in the challenging topography.
The couple, Raj Raghuvamsi and Sonam, was married on May 11 and went to North East for honeymoon on May 20, Indore police said.
They left for Meghalaya after visiting Kamakhya temple in Guwahati and were last seen in Nongriat homestay in East Khasi Hills in Shillong on May 24, police said.
The location of the mobile phones of the couple were last traced to Mawalkhiat village in Shillong on May 24, police said.
Indore police quoting their counterparts in Shillong said the couple took a two-wheeler on hire from one Sagar Sen Samal of Keating Road in Shillong on May 23 and travelled to Sohra to visit Cherrapunji, a prime tourist destination known as the world’s wettest place.
They were scheduled to return the scooter after four days.
The scooter, with keys still in ignition, was found abandoned in Sohrarim village, near the Golden Pines Dhaba.
It was noticed by the local villagers and the Sordar (village head) of Sohrarim reported the matter to the police.
The local police along with the local villagers and state disaster rapid force launched a massive search operation in the area to locate the couple but all their efforts have yielded no results so far, the Indore police said.
The Indore police commissioner Santosh Singh has assigned the deputy commissioner of police, crime branch, Rajesh Kumar Tripathy to coordinate with the Meghalaya police in the search operation.
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav talked to his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma for ‘quick and effective action’ to rescue the couple.
