India’s MMR Declined Significantly: Nadda

“The number increased to 819 medical colleges and 1,29,000 MBBS seats as of today”, he said

Bhopal: Union health minister J P Nadda on Tuesday said that the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in the country has declined drastically with the increase of the institutional delivery rate.

The institutional delivery rate in the country has increased to 89 percent which led to decline in the MMR significantly, Mr. Nadda said while laying foundation stones for two medical colleges in Betul and Dhar districts in Madhya Pradesh.

He attributed this achievement to the health policy of the Narendra Modi government which ensured that citizens remain healthy and do not fall ill in the first place.

Mr. Nadda who is also BJP national president said that in 2014 when the Narendra Modi government came to power at the Centre, the country had 387 medical colleges, and 51,000 MBBS seats.

“The number increased to 819 medical colleges and 1,29,000 MBBS seats as of today”, he said.

He said that the number of medical colleges will increase from the current 33 to more than 50 in coming years.

Mr. Nadda also underlined the acceleration of economic development under the Narendra Modi government.

“Eleven years ago, India was counted among the fragile five economies, but under the leadership of PM Modi, we have become the world’s fourth largest economy. Very soon, we are going to be the world's third largest economy”, he said.

He said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) says that the pace of development is slow worldwide, but India stands tall.

The World Bank describes India’s economic policy as a shining ray of hope, he said.

The two medical colleges, for which the foundation stones were laid, are coming up in Betul and Dhar districts at a cost of Rs 300 crore and Rs 260 crore respectively.
