Indian Seafarer Killed in Attack on MV Omorfi

The two other nationals have been reported to be safe, the statement said.

New Delhi: An Indian seafarer was killed in an attack on the commercial vessel MV Omorfi in the Black Sea, the ministry of external affairs said on Friday adding that the ship had three Indians on board.

The two other nationals have been reported to be safe, the statement said.

India strongly condemned the attack and said assaults on commercial shipping and civilian crew members were unacceptable. It called on all parties to safeguard maritime navigation and ensure that global trade was not disrupted.

The ministry has not disclosed the identity of the deceased seafarer or further details about the vessel, the location and circumstances of the attack, or those responsible.

The incident comes days after four Indian crew members were killed in an attack on MV Golden Leo while it was leaving Ukraine’s Odesa port. India subsequently summoned Russia’s chargé d’affaires and conveyed its grave concerns over the safety of Indian seafarers in the Black Sea.
