Indian-Origin Woman Killed in Canada After Brief Interaction

Police alleged that the suspect shot the woman before fleeing the scene before officers' arrival. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the victim succumbed to her injuries.

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old Indian-origin woman was allegedly shot dead by 37-year-old Sharnjeet Singh of Brampton following a brief interaction on July 24. The victim was identified as Navneet Kaur.

According to the Toronto Police Service, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard area at around 7:23 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Police alleged that the suspect shot the woman before fleeing the scene before officers' arrival. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the victim succumbed to her injuries.

Following an extensive investigation, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police located and arrested the suspect.

The accused has been charged with first-degree murder and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. Further investigation into the case is underway.
