New Delhi: In a dramatic high-seas rescue on July 10, the Indian Coast Guard saved two US nationals stranded aboard a disabled yacht approximately 52 nautical miles south-east of Indira Point, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
After receiving the distress message via the US Consulate in Chennai, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Port Blair alerted nearby vessels and initiated rescue protocols. ICG Ship Rajveer was dispatched through rough sea conditions to the yacht ‘Sea Angel,’ which had suffered a blown sail and an entangled propeller.
Upon arrival, the Rajveer team established communication with the crew, conducted an on-site assessment, and confirmed that both individuals were safe and in good health despite the mechanical failure and heavy winds. On Friday morning, the Coast Guard successfully towed the yacht to Campbell Bay Harbour, concluding the operation without injury or loss.
