Indian Arrested in Nepal for Running Online Scam, Cheating People

Kathmandu: An Indian national and a Nepali have been arrested from Pokhara in central Nepal for cheating at least 30 people through an online scam, police said Saturday.

Mohammed Yasheer, 30, a resident of Karnataka, and Vivek Regmi, 26, of Nepal's Kanchanpur district, who were arrested on Friday cheated at least 30 people and amassed NRs 9,65,000 from them, Nepal Police said in a statement.

The duo employed 15 Nepalese youths as their staff in their company Oasis Tourism International. They called/contacted individuals and asked them to fill out coupons, police said.

These coupons announce a holiday package to some Asian or European country, for which that individual would need to register to win an assured gift, the duo promised.

The police said they recovered two computer monitors, coupon vouchers and stamps from the two of them.
