Arunachal Pradesh Holds Rare Cabinet Meeting Near LAC
The high-altitude session, part of the Cabinet Aapke Dwar initiative, aimed to bring governance to remote areas.

The cabinet sanctioned 200 new Home Guard posts under the 2023 Rules.
Guwahati, May 14: In a tactical move to counter China's propaganda, the Arunachal Pradesh cabinet held a rare meeting at Kibithu, a village 8 km south of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), approving proposals in hydropower, governance, education, and security.
The meeting occurred Tuesday, following India’s External Affairs Ministry’s Wednesday criticism of China’s civil aviation ministry for renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh. “China’s attempts to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh are vain and preposterous. Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India,” the Ministry stated.
China calls Arunachal Pradesh “Zangnan” and has issued multiple renaming lists, targeting areas like Kibithu and Walong, sites of Indian resistance in the 1962 war.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who chaired the meeting, honored the Indian Army’s 6 Kumaon Regiment for their heroism in the 1962 Battle of Walong. The high-altitude session, part of the Cabinet Aapke Dwar initiative, aimed to bring governance to remote areas.
The government announced M/s NEEPCO Arunachal Hydro Power Corporation Limited, a joint venture with NEEPCO, to implement five hydropower projects in Shi-Yomi district: Tato I, Heo, Tato II, Naying, and Hirong. Tato I and Heo are cleared for construction.
Shi-Yomi district borders China. The cabinet also launched the Mukhya Mantri Viksit Arunachal District Fellowship, deploying 35 fellows and 65 assistant fellows to support district administration.
Other approvals included new land management rules, restructuring of the Niglok Industrial Growth Centre, and a five-day Sunrise Festival at Dong, India’s easternmost village, to highlight Arunachal’s identity.
The cabinet sanctioned 200 new Home Guard posts under the 2023 Rules, restructured the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Services, increasing secretary-level positions from 3 to 8, and approved a tripartite agreement under Mission Karmayogi for personnel training.
To boost hydropower, the cabinet restored the 144 MW Gongri Hydropower Project to M/s Dirang Energy Pvt Ltd under the 2025 Restoration Policy, approved a basin-wise hydro development approach, and created 96 new technical and non-technical posts.
