KOLKATA: Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi hours after he accused the Trinamul Congress of backing the “tukde tukde gang”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that BJP has started plotting a conspiracy to trifurcate the state through delimitation and repeated the claim at rallies throughout the day.
She said at Onda in Bankura, “They are conspiring to break Bengal into three parts through delimitation. Then NRC will be implemented. People will be sent to detention camps. We will never allow it here.” At Chhatna of the district, Banerjee pointed out, “Through delimitation, they might merge some districts of Bengal with Bihar and Odisha. Our people will be tortured even more.” She said at Khandaghosh in Burdwan East that the Delimitation Bill would be brought on April 15.
“Do you know what it means? They want to divide Bengal for their own gains. They do not understand that people may worry about many things. Even if you do all this, in 2026 the BJP government will be toppled. All are saying this. All of BJP’s harsh laws will be overturned. We will avenge it all through democratic means and through votes.”
Banerjee also took a swipe at Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah for calling the videos, which showed Aam Janata Unnyan Party founder Humayun Kabir asking for ₹1,000 crore from BJP to split Muslim votes in the polls, AI generated.
She argued, “You saw how a ₹1,000-crore deal was made to divide Hindus and Muslims. But ‘Amodi-Pramodi’ Babus have taken to the streets, calling the videos AI-generated. The person in the video is however saying it is real. So why are they trying to defend him? How will this be covered up now?”
The CM also slammed the Central forces personnel, on poll duty, for excess in the name of searching women, a day after former TMC MLA Kanchan Mullick’s wife, Sreemoyee, complained of harassment by the troopers while checking her car.
