Twisha Sharma Death Case: CBI Arrests Ex-Judge Giribala Singh
16 days after Twisha’s ‘dowry death’, Singh has been arrested; CBI arrested her after 7-hr interrogation

Bhopal: Around two weeks after death of model and actor Twisha Sharma, allegedly due to dowry harassment, her mother-in-law Giribala Singh, a retired district judge and an accused in the case along with her advocate son Samarth, was on Thursday afternoon arrested by the Central Bureau of Interrogation (CBI) following a marathon seven-hour- interrogation of her by the premium investigation agency.
The arrest comes a day after the Madhya Pradesh high court quashed the anticipatory bail, granted to her on May 15 by the Bhopal sessions court.
Sources said that the CBI team began interrogation of the former judicial officer at her residence in the posh Katara Hills colony here at around 10.30 am and took her into their custody at 5.10 pm.
A thorough forensic examination was done in her residence and across premises of her house by the CBI team using a high-intensity 3D camera with 360-degree coverage to explore if the neighbouring terraces and balconies are visible to the ‘crime spot’, sources said.
She was later taken to the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal, where a medical board is scheduled to conduct her health examination before being produced before the CBI court here, sources said.
While quashing the anticipatory bail granted to the retired district judge by the lower court, the high court bench of Justice Devnarayan Mishra, in his 17-page verdict, observed that the trial court had failed to adequately appreciate material available in the case diary, witness statements, and allegations levelled by the deceased’s family before granting the anticipatory bail to Giribala Singh.
The high court also took serious note of allegations that Giribala Singh, a retired judicial officer trained in cybercrime, cyber forensic, and crime scene management, may have used her expertise to tamper with evidence and influence the course of investigation.
The CBI, a couple of days ago, took over the investigation into the case from the Madhya Pradesh police and re-registered a case under sections of 80 (2) (dowry death), 85 (cruelty to woman by her husband or relatives), 3 (5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common interest) of Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS) and also under sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 against Giribala Singh and her son Samarth, husband of Twisha.
Samartha is currently in police custody after his arrest in Jabalpur recently.
Twisha who married Samarth on December nine, 2025, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself, as per the prosecution case, on May 12.
The autopsy was conducted on May 13.
As per the postmortem report, the death was due to antemortem hanging by ligature, but from the postmortem, it is also clear that six other injuries were found in the body of the deceased, the high court observed.
“From the query report, it is also clear that these injuries were not caused due to taking out the body from the ligature or carrying out to the hospital”, the bench noted.
The deceased got pregnant and that was terminated within two months, the high court noted.
The first postmortem was done in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal.
A second autopsy was done by a forensic team from AIIMS, Delhi, in the AIIMS, Bhopal, following a directive by the Madhya Pradesh high court.
