Siliguri: 8-Hour Rescue; Expert Climbers Save Man Atop 270-Ft BSNL Tower

Siliguri: An unidentified man was saved by the team of expert mountaineers, who had climbed a BSNL tower. This mentally unstable individual was rescued following an eight-hour-long operation.

Civil Defence team member Krishna Barman says, "We began the operation at 7 o'clock. It was very difficult. Initially, as soon as he saw us, he climbed to the very top. There is no railing or seating space up there; he simply sat on a single rod. We tried hard to reason with him, but he wouldn't listen. When we tempted him with food, he came down; the moment he descended, we grabbed him and secured him with a rope. After that, we brought him down on a stretcher..."

Mountaineer Nehal Sarkar and his adventure team, along with BSNL officials, Siliguri metropolitan police, district administration joined the operation and began the tough mission to descend the man from the 270 ft BSNL mobile tower. The man was first spotted around 4pm, sitting at the top of BSNL mobile tower at Kanchanjunga Stadium. The man was carried down very carefully in a stretcher like arrangement with the help of the team of Mountaineer rescuers. Finally, around 11.30 pm the youth was brought down safely, the police official said.
