Nepal Flood: 3 From Odisha’s Bargarh Missing, Total 5 Odias Missing
Couple and their two-year-old daughter reportedly missing after flash floods in Nepal
Bhubaneswar: Three persons from Odisha’s Bargarh district, including a couple and their two-year-old daughter, have reportedly gone missing in Nepal following devastating flash floods, taking the number of Odias reported missing in the disaster to five.
The missing persons were identified as Gunnam Jayakrishna, his wife Gunnam Sai Bindu Kumari and their two-year-old daughter, residents of Sarala Jampali area in Bargarh district.
Jayakrishna was working at a hydroelectric project in Nepal and was staying there with his family. Their relatives have reportedly been unable to establish contact with them despite repeated attempts, triggering concern over their safety.
Bargarh District Collector Aditya Goyal confirmed that the family from Sarala Jampali was missing in Nepal and said the district administration had informed the Odisha government about the situation.
“We received information that the family is missing in Nepal. We are in constant touch with their family members. Continuous efforts are being made by the state government to facilitate their safe rescue and return. I hope and pray that the situation in Nepal is restored to normal at the earliest,” he said.
Earlier, two tourists from Odisha’s Khordha district were also reported missing amid the flash floods that hit Nepal on Wednesday. With the Bargarh family now untraceable, the number of Odias reported missing in the disaster has risen to five.
The Odisha government and district administration are coordinating with the authorities concerned to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing persons and facilitate their safe rescue and return.
The devastating floods and flash floods in Nepal have affected several areas, with authorities continuing rescue and relief operations amid challenging conditions.
