Dewas: A swarm of bees attacked the BJP's Tiranga Yatra in Dewas district on Friday, injuring around 40 workers with one person seriously hurt after being stung around 200 times, a party leader said. A DJ vehicle accompanying the procession passing through Vijayaganj Mandi area hit a beehive in a tree, said Atul Sharma, BJP rural mandal president who was among the injured.

More than 500 BJP workers were taking part in the Yatra on motorcycles, he said.

"Hundreds of bees instantly flew out after the beehive was struck, and attacked the workers. Around 40 to 50 workers were stung," he said.

"Several workers hid in a soybean field. They were later brought out of the field," Sharma added.

Injured workers were treated at different hospitals, Sharma said.

Dr Kamal Kishore of Mahatma Gandhi District Hospital said six injured people were brought to the hospital.

"One person was seriously injured after being stung by around 200 bees. All the patients are currently in stable condition after treatment," he said.
