GST Collection Hits New Record in April 2025

New Delhi: With a strong performance in recent months, the goods and services tax (GST) collection hit a new record in April 2025, rising by 12.6 per cent year-on-year to Rs 2.37 lakh crore. This is the highest monthly collection since the tax was introduced in 2017. However, April was the fourth consecutive month, which remained above the Rs 1.8 lakh crore mark, the government data showed on Thursday.
As per the data, the previous highest collection in GST was recorded in April 2024 at Rs 2.10 crore, which is the second highest collection ever since the rollout of the indirect tax regime, while in March 2025 the revenue mop-up was Rs 1.96 lakh crore. As the consumption helped provide support to the country's economy, the stellar performance also follows from the previous quarter. However, quarterly collections had hit a new high of Rs 5.75 lakh crore in the last quarter of FY25.
“The GST revenue from domestic transactions rose 10.7 per cent to about Rs 1.9 lakh crore, while revenue from imported goods was up 20.8 per cent to Rs 46,913 crore. The IGST revenues were up 20.8 percent, while domestic revenues expanded 10.7 percent for the month,” the data said.
