Rama Mohana Rao's son Vivek appears before I-T

Sources in the I-T department said Mr Vivek arrived at their office at around 4 pm and his questioning went late into the night.

Chennai: Vivek Pappisetty, son of former chief secretary P Rama Mohana Rao, appeared before the I-T investigators here on Friday, 10 days after residence and offices belonging to him and his relatives were raided.

Sources in the I-T department said Mr Vivek arrived at their office at around 4 pm and his questioning went late into the night. They said investigators sought detailed information about the companies owned by him, his friends and his relatives.

“He is cooperating with the I-T authorities,” a senior official said, requesting anonymity. The investigators are understood to have probed Mr Vivek about his links with sand don J Sekhar Reddy, who was arrested by the CBI on December 21, the day I-T laid a siege on the residence of Mr Vivek, his father Rama Mohana Rao and relatives.

Mr Vivek was probed in detail about the companies in which he was serving as director and how he managed to start new businesses. The former chief secretary’s had been evading the I-T for the past eight days and his appearance on Friday came after two reminders asking him to appear for questioning went from the department.

The questioning also went into the possible role of Rama Mohana Rao in bagging contracts not just those awarded by the state government but also the Union Government.
