Bengaluru: Owners ordered to dismantle cracker stores immediately

The decision was taken to ensure that there are no untoward incidents as people might try to burst damaged or unused crackers that are left behind.

Bengaluru: The BBMP has directed officials from all zones to ensure that cracker stalls in their areas are dismantled immediately. The stall owners should ensure that there are no cracker debris or damaged crackers left behind.

The decision was taken to ensure that there are no untoward incidents as people might try to burst damaged or unused crackers that are left behind.

A senior BBMP officer said that the officials are already conducting inspections where the stalls were put up and have confirmed that most of them have been dismantled and the owners have cleared the place without leaving material behind.

“It is a precautionary measure. Over the last few years, we noticed that damaged crackers were left behind, and people were setting them on fire. This could lead to injuries and fatalities. Strict orders were issued to remove the stalls and to clear the space. If we find anything left behind or stalls still in place on Thursday, we will start penalising the owners,” the officer said.

The officer said that if the jurisdictional police find any stalls not dismantled during their patrolling, they should ask owners to do so immediately.

The BBMP asked pourakarmikas to collect cracker debris separately and not to mix it with the daily garbage, as it will be disposed of or recycled separately.
