Karnataka High Court notice to DG&IGP, senior cops
The two were reportedly picked up for allegedly pledging spurious gold ornaments.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Monday ordered notices to DG&IGP Rupak Kumar Dutta, who is retiring from service on Tuesday, and other police officials, including Mangaluru Police Commissioner, Mangaluru North Police Station Inspector, its Sub-Inspector and others following a contempt petition filed by a couple, who own a jewellery shop.
Vidyananda Rao (59) and his wife Lalitha Rao (52), residents of Maryhill near Bondel in Mangaluru, filed the contempt petition alleging that they were illegally detained in the Mangaluru North Police Station for at least five days without even registering an FIR, which is against the Supreme Court order. The two were reportedly picked up for allegedly pledging spurious gold ornaments and raising large amounts of loans from a bank in Mangaluru.
