Hurt kid made to sit outside classroom for wearing flip flops
Hyderabad: A Class 7 student was allegedly made to sit outside the classroom for wearing flip flops to school.
Chethan Chowdary, a student of Sreenidhi International School, was having an injury between his toes that he had sustained over the weekend while playing with his friends.
Mr Suresh Chowdary, his father, said, “My son wore flip flops because he was injured. I know that it is against the rules of the school that clearly state that if the child does not wear footwear that covers his feet, he will not be able to attend classes. However genuine cases should be understood and this kind of humiliation should not be meted out to students.”
Chetan’s parents alleged that the head of the school, Mr Bruce Ferguson, made the student sit outside class.
The school denied the allegation. Mr Ferguson said, “The child had a wound and another student stamped on it. To ensure that his foot is not harmed, I asked the student to sit near my office. I called his parents to pick him up but they couldn’t come until after the school closed. I made him sit in the reception just to ensure that the injury was not aggravated by playing.”
