CPM vows to protect Kannur Medical College employees' rights
KANNUR: Giving a new dimension to the Kannur Medical College, Anjarakkandy, issue, the CPM Kannur district unit officially endorsed the ongoing strike by a section of employees demanding implementation of minimum wage and bonus. Based on the party direction, the Pinarayi and Anjarakkandy Area Committees will conduct protests and rallies in support of the employees. With the official entry of the CPM into the protests, more pressure has come on the KMC management who are so far adamant about refusing a bonus.
Party strongman and CPM Kannur District Secretary PM Jayarajan visited the protesting employees at the KMC campus and extended support. The CPM also conducted a popular protest rally in which hundreds took part. The protest, so far led by the CITU will be intensified in the coming days with the entry of the CPM. “We are happy that the CPM district leadership has extended all help. The management would definitely be under pressure now to resolve the issue amicably,” said one of the protesting hospital employees Dellin Mathew.
The protesters who are striking from September 13 are demanding minimum wage, bonus, three-shift system and to stop demanding a fee for experience certificates. Meanwhile the Medical College, which has been shutdown from October 21, will open on Monday. However, since the attached Hospital will not work, the students will not be able to attend practical classes.
