LDF okays House for all' project

Housing situation in Kerala is quite alarming as per recent survey conducted by Planning Board.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: To commemorate the Pinarayi Vijayan government's 100 days in office, LDF state committee on Tuesday finalised a series of people oriented programmes including ambitious ‘housing for all’ project. At the meeting here, the LDF planned to implement three major programmes which will be officially launched on Thursday as part of the government's 100 days celebration.

The most significant progamme is to provide houses to all families which do not have houses. A detailed plan is being worked out to map the homeless families and provide houses for them in a time bound manner. The scheme will also cover landless families who would be provide land. Considering the scarcity of land in many parts of the state, the government intends to construct flats to accommodate maximum families.

Houses for coastal population and plantation workers, will be constructed closer to their work places to ensure their livelihood is not affected. Waste disposal and toxic free vegetables are the other priority areas of the government. As part of Haritha Keralam, the government plans to put in place effective waste disposal mechanism emphasising on disposal at source, across the state. Besides a major thrust would be given to organic farming to counter the toxic and pesticide laden vegetables and fruits that are flwoing intothe state.

The LDF has asked the govermnt to strengthen the public distribution system further to ensure that people get enough essential commodities ahead of Onam festival. LDF leadership which discussed these plans in the presence of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, entrusted Cabinet with the tasks of formulating more pro people programmes as part of the 100 days in office.
