CCTV cameras at homestays, hotels in Alappuzha

The surveillance was agreed on after a consensus with representatives of the tourism industry.

Alappuzha: Alappuzha police has decided to set up CCTV cameras in the tourism sector including homestays, hotels and houseboats. District police chief A. Akbar has said cameras would be installed as part of tightening security in the tourism sector. The cameras that can store data for at least 30 days should be installed at the entrance of homestays, hotels and houseboats. The surveillance was agreed on after a consensus with representatives of the tourism industry. “The cameras will be able to capture a picture even in the dark,” he said.

“All homestays and hotels have been mandated to construct compound walls,” he said. “When foreign tourists check in, there should be a proper system in place to keep a copy of their passport. The filled-up C-form has to be submitted to the police station concerned within 24 hours.” The district police chief said this had become necessary after the successful investigation into the recent hi- tech ATM robbery by foreigners in Thiruvananthapuram. The identity and such details of tourists have to be filed in the storerooms of every institution, he said adding that patrolling at the end-point in the houseboat sector would also be intensified, apart from installing CCTV cameras.
