Speed boat topples in sea, tourists safe in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: A speed boat belonging to AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) toppled close to the shore off Rushikonda Beach in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

Timely action by the boat driver, followed by an immediate rescue mission launched by lifeguards, saved the situation for the two tourists, who had hired the boat on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place about 500 metres from the shore when the boat Sagarika had been returning from its trip. The boat toppled over due to an unexpected high wave. The driver and two tourists were thrown into the sea. All three had been wearing life jackets.

APTDC liaison officer Ranjit Kumar said the driver of the boat and lifeguards brought the tourists to the shore. No one suffered injuries, he stated.

Authorities informed marine police about the mishap, who made inquiries from the two boat riders Ravi and Suresh of Visakhapatnam City.

Tourists present at the beach appreciated the boat driver and lifeguards for their prompt rescue operation.
