Thrissur: Acting on a complaint filed by the father of Dalit Youth Vinayakan of Engadiyur with the rural police chief here on Saturday, Vadanappally police registered a case against policemen who allegedly tortured the youth in custody at Pavaratty police station. Vinayakan who was taken into custody by Pavaratty police on July 17 was allegedly subjected to severe torture in police custody and he committed suicide at his home the next day.
Speaking to DC Rural SP N. Vijayakumar said that at present names of the policemen facing allegations were entered in the FIR. Sections invoking SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 along with that of torture in custody were invoked while registering the FIR, he noted. The case of custodial inquiry was handed over to CB by DGP on Saturday and Thrissur Range IG M.R. Ajith Kumar would decide on the investigation officer, Mr Vijayakumar said.
