Will take steps to check disease outbreak: CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Kochi: Positive changes are seen in areas where Haritha Keralam Mission initiatives have been successfully implemented, while other places where the cleaning drive has failed have registered an increase in communicable diseases, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. While inaugurating the concluding function of the cleaning drive ‘100 ponds in 50 days’ at Puthencruz on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that the government would make immediate and effective intervention to contain the outbreak of infectious diseases.
“Ernakulam district could successfully implement some unique cleaning programmes as part of the Haritha Keralam Mission. The cleaning and conserving of abandoned water sources, initiated by the district administration, turned out to be an example for other districts. Though the objective was to clean 100 ponds in 50 days, as many as 150 water sources have been cleaned. Following the model, the government aims at conserving all water sources in the state,” he said.
The Chief Minister asked local bodies to make effective intervention in waste management and disease prevention. He also urged them to fulfil the government’s plan to plant one crore saplings on World Environment Day on June 5. V.P Sajeendran, MLA, presided. Haritha Keralam Mission vice chairperson T.N Seema, district collector Muhammad Y Safirulla, district panchayat president Asha Sanil, GCDA chairman C.N Mohanan and other officials also attended.
