T P Senkumar revives Internal Vigilance Cell, now under RTI purview
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State police chief T.P. Senkumar on Tuesday revived the Internal Vigilance Cell in the police department. The DGP appointed ADGP (Crimes) Nitin Aggarwal as Chief Vigilance Officer. The cell, whose function was confidential in nature, has now been brought within the purview of the Right to Information Act following an order issued by the DGP. After becoming DGP during the UDF government's tenure, Senkumar had re-established the internal vigilance cell in June 2015. However, it remained almost defunct since then.
Even earlier in 2009, Senkumar had laid his hands on a government order to revive the cell. According to sources, the members of the cell would carry out surprise checks at the police stations, circle offices, subdivision offices, other police offices and any other public place to detect corruption among cops. The cell would focus mainly on issues related to corruption. As part of the mechanism, the cell is liable to report all details to unit heads after each inspection. The revival of the Cell is aimed at strengthening the internal vigilance mechanism of the police department which had remained defunct till now.
