Markaz Institute of Engineering and Technology students pin hopes on govt decision

The technical expert committee of the district administration which studied the issue has recommended that the government can approve the courses.

KOZHIKODE: The protesting students, political parties, Kunnamangalam grama panchayat and management of the Markaz Institute of Engineering and Technology hope that the government will decide on the issue of the non-approval of courses in MIET. The technical expert committee of the district administration which studied the issue has recommended that the government can approve the courses. Or else it would affect the future of some 500 students. The student protest was alleging that the MIET diploma courses in Architecture, Civil Engineering and Auto-mobile Engineering during 2012-15 had no approval and the institution cheated students.

The protest turned violent on Monday as police arrested many of the protesters.
District Collector U.V Jose told DC that they were expecting a response in favour of the students. “The advertisement put out by the management claiming approval of the courses was wrong. But that mistake was not in the prospectus. Students too failed to note the difference in the prospectus and advertisement before joining the courses,” he said. The government is expected to convene a meeting to discuss the same soon. The students who studied in 2013-15 found out the non-validity of their certificates when they applied for jobs.
