Kozhikode Corporation to bring hospital canteens under scanner

Health officer Dr R. S. Gopakumar said they had received similar complaints against other hospital canteens too.

KOZHIKODE: Followed by the raids and sealing off of the Beach Hospital canteen last week, the Kozhikode Corporation health wing is planning to crack down on similar canteens inside all government and private hospitals. They would start inspections soon after the Ramzan. The eatery of the district panchayat-run hospital was sealed after they received many complaints regarding hygiene and quality of food served. They had seized stale food items from there, and condition of the kitchen was very pathetic with unhygienic surroundings and practices.

Health officer Dr R. S. Gopakumar said they had received similar complaints against other hospital canteens too. “The raid conducted at Beach Hospital was after we received so many complaints from the public as well as the staff of the hospital," he said. "There are complaints such as getting a mixer grinder blade piece from the dosa and hair from the rice served at the Beach Hospital canteen. Similar complaints about private hospitals are also reaching our department which will be duly investigated, and taken action on.” “We will launch a crackdown on such establishments soon after Ramzan,” he added.
