Kochi Metro Rail Limited approves consultant for Water Metro

Works are yet to be completed in Reach II from Maharajas to Vyttila.

KOCHI: The 26th Board meeting of Kochi Metro Rail Limited approved the selection of M/s AECOM Consortium as the general consultant for the Water Metro project. AECOM Consortium comprising M/s AECOM India Pvt Ltd, M/s Urban Mass Transit Company Ltd and M/s Zebec Marine Consultants and Service Pvt Ltd has been selected considering its technical and financial scores in the bidding. The consultancy fee is Rs 38. 14 crore. The Board meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday, under the chairmanship of Rajiv Gauba, Secretary, Urban Development and chairman of KMRL also approved the extension of agreement with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and payment of additional remuneration of Rs 42.71 crore for execution of Metro – Phase I.

The agreement with DMRC expires on May 31 and the agreed remuneration was Rs 241.83 crore for four years at 6 per cent of the approved project cost (excluding land cost and DMRC remuneration). Works are yet to be completed in Reach II from Maharajas to Vyttila. The major reasons for spillover works are delay in land acquisition, poor performance of civil contractor resulting in termination and retendering and change in the design of railway crossing–all amounting to an additional Rs 42.71 crore so DMRC can finish the work during the extended period.
