BSNL to roll out 4G facility in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: The BSNL will roll out 4G facility in its network in the state this financial year. BSNL Kerala chief general manager R. Mani told reporters here on Tuesday that 4G would be introduced in 2,200 spots. The first phase would be completed by December, Mr Mani said. In the next phase to be completed before March, it would be extended to 2,200 spots. All the major cities and towns will come under 4G within one month. Purchase orders in this regard had been placed, the official said and added that Nokia would supply the equipment.
There is also a proposal for converting all the 3G towers in the state into 4G. At present 71 percent of the BSNL network in Kerala has been converted to 3G. During the previous year, the 3G coverage was just 34 percent. By the end of the year, 90 percent of the state would come under the 3G network. Of the 2,067 towers which were established recently 1950 are 3G, he said. In the last three months, 3G facility was introduced in 12 places in Lakshadweep and 2G facilities in 10 other places. All the important islands in Lakshadweep having a population of more than 5,000 would get 3G, Mr Mani said.
