Kerala High Court stays A C Haneefa murder trial
THRISSUR: Acting on a complaint filed by the mother of the slain Congress leader A C Haneefa of Chavakkad claiming that there were severe drawbacks in the investigation and some of the persons involved in the heinous crime were not included in the charge sheet submitted by the cops, the High Court has stayed the trial in the case which was schedule to be begin earlier this week.
In the order judge Raja Vijayaraghavan.V has ordered an interim stay on the commencement of the trial for one month. The interim order issued last week says that it appears to the court that the investigation conducted has not been fair.
“Though two statements have been filed by the investigating officer ascertaining that the actual assailants responsible for the gruesome murder of Haneefa are the persons who are charged and proceeded against, the same will be belied by the earliest records, which speaks about the involvement of other named persons as well.
“Two of the named persons have been left out in the final report and the charge against the accused other than accused No.1 and 3, has been diluted,” the order says. The relatives of the slain Congress leader who held a press conference in Thrissur on Monday also alleged that I-group leader in the district and former Co-operation minister C N Balakrishnan had interfered in the case to let off the real culprits.
According to the relatives of Haneefa, the I-group Former Chavakkad mandalam Congress president, Gopa Prathapan, was the kingpin behind the murder but he was not included in the charge sheet. The murder took place in August last year.
