HYDERABAD: A 22-year-old woman and her mother, 45, died by suicide at Shabad on the city outskirts under Cyberabad commissionerate limits on Wednesday. Sumitra was found hanging and her mother Yadamma’s body was found in a pond near their home.
Police said Sumitra’s husband Shiva Kumar attempted suicide by consuming poison due to some domestic issues between the couple. Upset over this, Sumitra died by suicide. Shocked by this, her mother could have jumped in the pond and died, the police said.
Shabad inspector G. Guruvaiah Goud said they have registered a case and handed over the bodies to the family after a postmortem examination. Sumitra’s husband Shiva Kumar is recovering at a hospital and is out of danger now, he added.
Sumitra and Shiva Kumar were married for around two years. A few days ago, due to some differences, Sumitra came to her maternal home in Shabad. Upset over this, on Tuesday, Shiva Kumar consumed poison. Knowing this, Sumitra hanged herself at home. On seeing this, her mother jumped into a pond and died.
Yadamma’s son Guruprasad who stays with her, was away in Hyderabad for some work when his mother and sister took the extreme step, the police said.
