The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday.

Kannur: An expert committee at state-level which includes representatives of parties involved will sort out the alleged water contamination in Ramanthali village near the Indian Naval Academy. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday. The committee will submit a report in a month. He asked the INA to adhere to Pollution Control Board directions and condemned the violence on its officers.

The villagers have been on a monthlong protest against the INA alleging sewage treatment plant was contaminating the groundwater. It took a new turn on Tuesday with the Navy complaining of assaults on its six officers by protesters. The villagers say the water in their wells emits a foul smell. District Collector Mir Mohammed Ali, Kasargode MP P. Karunakaran, Payyannur MLA C. Krishnan and others attended the meeting.
