SSLC exam: First day marred by glitches
Bengaluru: The SSLC examinations (Class X exams) conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) kickstarted on Wednesday. With only a few incidents marring the day, everything else went smoothly.
Since the SSLC final examinations are considered the most important test in a student’s life, most of the children visited temples and performed pujas before arriving at the examination centres. Most of them arrived with their parents. On day one, the language paper I (Sanskrit/ Kannada/ English) was held. According to the students it was a moderate question paper, not too tough.
All the examination centres were filled with students and parents. them. Last-minute cramming by the students, prayers, best wishes being exchanged could be heard everywhere. A substantial number of students with ‘special needs’ also appeared for the examination.
According to the students who appeared for the examination at Government Composite College in Malleswaram, the examination was not tough and they sailed through. Ms. Shaina Abraham, a student with special needs, told this newspaper that she wanted to become an IAS officer after graduation. “I would like to do well in this examination as success here will open doors for me to do any higher course. My parents, teachers and friends helped me a lot to prepare for the examination, which was a breeze,” she said.
According to the KSEEB officials, in many examination centres of the city, the entire examination process was monitored through live CCTV footage. “As per the new school safety guidelines published by the state government, all the schools must have CCTV cameras. These CCTV cameras were used by the KSEEB to ensure foolproof surveillance in all the schools,” said an officer.
Paper leak
Rumours related to the question paper leak hit the SSLC students too. Some students had received a list of handwritten questions on their Wats App few hours before the examination, creating a flurry of tension among them. But according to the KSEEB officials, there was no truth in the allegations of a question paper leak.
Hall ticket refused
35 class X students of Vivekananda High School in Sarayipalya in Thanisandra under Hennur police limits couldn’t appear for the examination with KSEEB denying them their hall tickets. According to the students, the school management had informed them that all the students would be given hall tickets on Wednesday morning. "But this didn’t happen. When we started protesting, we came to know that the school had no permission. KSEEB was not even ready to consider us as private candidates. Now because of all this we are losing one academic year," alleged students. When the news of the incident spread, DPI rushed the local BEO to the spot, who has lodged a complaint with the Hennur police. The Hennur police have arrested one Mr. Nagaraj, convenor of the school. According to the KSEEB sources, an agent misled all the students and admitted them to the school. According to the preliminary investigation carried out by the DPI, it has been found that among these 35 students, 10 were from nearby St George Public School. These students were duped saying they were allotted examination centre at Vivekannada School. Meanwhile, the DPI has filed a case against both the schools.
Future of the students: According to the sources, KSEEB may allow these 35 students to appear for SSLC examination in during the time of supplementary examination, to be held in June. “So that these students don’t lose an academic year,” said an officer.
