Kerala Law Academy talks remain inconclusive
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Talks initiated by the Kerala Law Academy Law College with the agitating students on Monday evening remained inconclusive as principal Lakshmi Nair refused to resign from her post. It is learnt that Ms Nair offered to keep off the principal’s post and give the charge to vice-principal Madhavan Potti, but refused to resign or keep off from teaching. However, the student leaders, cutting across party lines, were firm on their demand. At this point the meeting was aborted.
SFI leaders, who later came out of the meeting, said that the management agreed to most of the demands except the principal's resignation. Hence they would also continue with the strike and decide future plans at party level. Two rounds of talks were held on Monday night. The first meeting began by 8 p.m. According to sources, Ms Nair was adament that she would only keep off the principal post for the time being, but would not resign.
Student leaders were equally uncompromising and walked out of the meeting by around 8.30 p.m. But the management called the students again for another round of talks and asked them to give their demands in writing. The management assured to consider other demands, except principal’s resignation. Ms Nair even rejected the students’ demand to at least keep off the principal’s post for five years. Then students leaders walked out of the meeting.
