K Muraleedharan warns of launching strike

V. M. Sudheeran has said that Congress would render all support to striking students at Law Academy.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader K. Muraleedharan has threatened to go on an indefinite fast if the government fails to settle the student strike at the Law Academy within 48 hours. He also sought the arrest of its principal, Lakshmi Nair, facing charges of discriminating students by caste and gender and awarding marks at will. The decision was taken at a DCC meeting in the presence of the local legislator following widespread criticism against allowing the BJP to “hijack” the strike launched by the KSU and its allies.

Talking to reporters, Mr Muraleedharan criticised the government indifference and said the demands of the striking students were reasonable and that he couldn't remain a mute spectator as the MLA representing Peroorkada. The former KPCC president also alleged that the BJP had been trying to take the protests “to a higher level.”

Meanwhile, KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran has said that Congress would render all support to striking students at Law Academy. He alleged that it was the CPM which was playing spoilsport in settling the strike going on since the last 20 days. Talking to reporters at Indira Bhavan here on Monday, he said a committee would be formed to help the cause of students demanding the resignation of its principal.
