Death toll rises to four in Madhurawada gas leak incident

Visakhapatnam: The death toll in the gas leak incident that occurred on November 24 in Madhurawada's Vambay Colony has climbed to four.

Four members of the same family who were receiving treatment for their injuries at King George Hospital passed away. The deceased have been identified as Y. Balaraju, 60, his wife Chinni, 55, and their eldest son Giri, 22, who succumbed to their injuries early on Wednesday. Their youngest son Karthik, 21, had previously passed away on November 27.

A gas leak sparked a fire incident in the early hours of November 24. Balraju attempted to replace the gas cylinder but was unable to properly secure the regulator, resulting in a gas leak that engulfed the entire house. Y. Balaraju and his sons Giri and Karthik were all observing the Ayyappa Deeksha. When Balaraju and his two sons attempted to light a lamp for the Ayyappa puja, the gas ignited, engulfing the house in flames.

Residents of the colony expressed shock and disbelief that all the individuals who were admitted to the hospital with injuries had ultimately succumbed to their conditions. The bodies have been transferred to a local hospital for post-mortem examinations. The PM Palem police are currently investigating the incident.
