Rs 10 crore to create water troughs in tiger reserves

TN forest minister on Tuesday instructed foresters to speed up the drought relief works in all the tiger reserves and national parks.

Chennai: With surface water depleting at all four major tiger reserves in Tamil Nadu and to ensure that wild animals do not stray into residential settlements, state forest minister Dindigul C. Srinivasan on Tuesday instructed foresters to speed up the drought relief works in all the tiger reserves and national parks.

The minister who reviewed about the recently installed solar motors to fill the artificial water holes established in all tiger reserves instructed the foresters to also go in for manual filling of water through tankers if there is a requirement.

For the current fiscal about Rs 10 crore has been allocated to create artificial water troughs and to install solar motor pumps to keep the check dams and rivulets flowing.

In case of districts with human-animal conflicts a periodical report and solutions have been insisted from field officials, a senior forest official told Deccan Chronicle, when asked about drought relief measures.
