Master plan sought to end water scarcity in Kochi
Kochi: Minister for Education C. Raveendranath, who is in charge of the district, has directed authorities to step up measures to resolve the impending acute water scarcity. During a meeting convened on Tuesday, the minister asked officials to prepare a master plan at the constituency-level to address water scarcity in the district. The meeting reviewed the progress and hurdles in implementation of various drinking water projects being undertaken in the district.
The minister also asked the officials to convene a consultative meeting next month to prepare the action plan. “Only decentralized projects can effectively address the issue. Feasible project proposals should be submitted soon and ongoing projects have to be completed before December 31,” Prof. Raveendranath said. He has promised to take immediate steps to realize the proposed Rs 400 crore drinking water project at Kalamassery.
During the meeting, P. T Thomas MLA complained that water scarcity is acute even in the Infopark – Smart City areas while areas near the district collectorate are getting water only once in three days. MAs Anwar Sadath, Anop Jacob, Antony John, district collector Muhammad Y Safirulla and officials of Kerala Water Authority, Irrigation Department and local bodies also attended.
