Kuniyil twin murder case: Police flies to Saudi to bring back accused

MALAPPURAM: The Special Investigation Team probing the Kuniyil twin murder case has flown to Saudi Arabia to bring back Abdul Saboor, one of the accused in the case, who was arrestedby the Saudi police in June. Saboor, the 17th accused in the case, had earlier escaped to Qatar after the crime and later moved to Saudi Arabia after co accused Mujeeb Rahman was taken into custody by the Interpol from Doha in Qatar.

The police had issued a red corner notice against Saboor which helped the Saudi Arabian police to take him into custody. A two-member team led by M.P. Mohana Chandran, DySP of Perinthalmanna, reached Saudi Arabia. Saboor will be brought back within two days, the police said. The controversial case took place on June 10, 2012 when brothers Kolakkadan Azad and Kolakkadan Abubacker were murdered by a gang at Kuniyil town near Areekode in the district.

The SIT had found that the murder was in retaliation to the murder of the Atheeq Rahman who was hacked to death in January that year following a scuffle after a football match. The SIT had filed a charge sheet in the case, before Judicial First Class Magistrate court in Manjeri in June 2012 which named a total of 19 accused including Saboor.
