Kollam blast probe in Bengaluru
KOLLAM: In the wake of National Investigation Agency (NIA) carrying out arrests of suspected militants from Madurai and Chennai recently for allegedly being behind the court blasts in South India including Kollam, an investigation team from Kollam has headed to Bengaluru for further interrogation. The team will investigate the links of those arrested in connection with the Kollam court blast and they will be brought to Kollam to collect evidence.
“The team from Kollam will interrogate those arrested at Bengaluru, in accordance with the availability of culprits in police custody. The NIA team has already received proper evidence proving their links to the blast in Kollam court complex, according to procedure,” a highly placed official with the police told this newspaper.
The investigation team from Kollam include Kollam West circle inspector V.S. Biju and East sub-inspector S. Jayakrishnan. The NIA’s Hyderabad unit had on Monday arrested six terror suspects of the group ‘Base Movement’ for carrying out bomb blasts in court complexes including Kollam, Malappuram, Chittoor and Nellore. The arrested include Dawood Suleman of Thiruvanmiyur in Chennai, Abbas Ali of Ismalipuram, Mohammed Abdul Kareem of K. Pudur, Shamshum Karawa, Ayub Khan, and Hafeez from Madhurai.
An IED prepared using a steel tiffin box had exploded at the parking area of Court complex on June 15. The bomb was planted under a jeep belonging to the labour department which exploded with loud noise. Blasts having a similar modus operandi later took place at Malappuram court complex on November 1, Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh on April 7 and the Mysore blast on August 1, all of which took place inside the court complexes there.
