Kerala: Committee to study effects of demonetisation

Thiruvananthapuram: A five-member committee led by noted economist Prof. C P Chandrasekharan has been constituted to study the effects of demonetisation on the State economy. The committee has been asked to review demonetisation’s impact on the state's tax revenue, gross domestic product, and also the short- and long-term impact of the move on the cooperative sector. The committee will also study the labour, income and economic activities of the state's major sectors. The committee's first report will be submitted to the State Planning Board.
The committee members, along with Planning Board vice chairman Prof V K Ramachandran, met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Tuesday. Apart from Prof Chandrasekharan, who is from the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, JNU, the other members of the committee are: Prof D Narayana (director, Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation), Prof Pinaki Chakraborty (National Institute of Public Finance and Policy), Dr K M Abraham (additional chief secretary, finance), and V S Senthil (member secretary, Planning Board).
