Conjoined twins Veena and Vani's shifting to home on hold
Hyderabad: Conjoined twins Veena and Vani will not be shifted from Niloufer Hospital to the state home as the government is waiting for medical reports from doctors in Australia who are looking at the option of separating the twins. The medical reports of the twins have been sent to doctors who are yet to give their opinion on whether they can be separated or not.
A source in the health department said: “The decision to shift them to the state home is final but it will take time. We are waiting for the doctors’ reports before taking this step. This is a crucial juncture as there are queries from the doctors in Australia and it requires of them to be close to the specialist who can monitor their condition and accordingly report to them. We have to wait till then.”
There is resistance from the girls who are worried whether they will be able to adjust to the new home. An official in the hospital said: “They are being counseled and prepared so that they can adapt to the new place. They have spent their childhood here and are comfortable. While their teacher will be visiting them, it is still going to be a change with which they will have to adapt. Hence both medical and social aspects are being looked into before shifting them.” The state government is yet to file a reply to the public interest litigation filed in the High Court and thus there has not been any commencement of hearing.
