KOZHIKODE: The Muslim organisations here have decided to boycott the questionnaire circulated by the Law Commission as part of a nationwide survey on the Uniform Civil Code. At a meeting here on Saturday, they decided to keep mum on the triple talaq issue due to differences of opinion among them and protest against the UCC. However, some of the prominent Muslim organisations, including Kerala Muslim Jamaat and INL abstained from the meeting.
"When the country has many important issues to discuss, the uniform civil code is a topic to divert the people's attention. The Muslim personal law is complete and it does not need any addition or modification. The minority communities are worried over the latest discussions by the centre," said IUML national treasurer P.K. Kunhalikkutty. The meeting, convened by Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal, decided to cooperate with the signature campaign by the Muslim Personal Law Board and other secular outfits that reject the UCC.
They opined that bringing a uniform civil code is against the secular nature of the country that lets individuals to practise their own religion. The meeting was also attended by national IUML secretary E.T. Mohammed Basheer, national president E. Ahmed, national secretary MP Abdu Samad Samadani, Samastha leader Kottumala Bappu Musaliyar, MES president Fasal Gafoor, Dr Hussain Madavoor, Yusuf Muhammed Nadvi from Personal Law Board and M.C. Mayin Haji from Kerala Waqf Board.
