Design Yatra' arrives at Kozhikode

Members to clean up Chaliyar river on Sunday.

KOZHIKODE: Eminent historian M.G.S. Narayanan delivered the keynote address at the reception to ‘Design Yatra’, a roadshow organised by Institute of Indian Interior Designer (IIID) here on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, he stressed the need for better designing during construction. A. Pradeepkumar MLA was also present.

IIID, a national body of architects, organised the roadshow crisscrossing the nation in three Nano cars, creating awareness among common man on the need of designing in construction.

The ‘Yatra’ that started in February had already visited 21 major Indian cities and would cover all regions except North East before its conclusion in February.

The team would stay here for three days holding competitions, heritage walk, talk shows and interactive sessions with students.

As part of the campaign for better designing, 30 IIID members will clean up the Chaliyar River in different kayaks with the support of the Jellyfish Water Sports Club on Sunday at 3 pm.

There will be a two-day workshop on designing namely Dream, Draw and Design at the Avani Institute of Designs for students which would start on Sunday. Artist and cartoonist Ajith Rao will lead the workshop.

Prizes will be distributed to the winners of the sketching competition conducted for architect interns and architects on redesigning Food Street at Customs Road in Kozhikode. The team will leave for Karnataka on November 11, after visiting Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Trivandrum.
