HYDERABAD: City police commissioner C.V. Anand said that there has been a 10 per cent increase in the number of Ganesh idols compared to the past. The immersion process slowed down on Friday, as normal traffic was allowed in the main immersion routes, but concluded successfully due to the collaborative efforts of the organisers and all stakeholders, he said.
Police booked 255 individuals for harassing women at various spots. The taskforce and crime teams maintained a high-level of vigilance and ensured the safety and security of lakhs of devotees, he said. "Five persons died in separate incidents during the immersion. Except for this tragic turn, the entire event was peaceful," he said.
Speaking to the media after inspecting the immersion process at Hussainsagar lake on Friday, Anand said that around 60,000 idols of various heights were immersed in Hussainsagar, this time around.
While congratulating his officers for doing wonderfully well, Anand said that some organisers had deliberately delayed the immersion despite repeated requests.
“The Milad julus will be taken out on Sunday and all arrangements are being made for it,” he said.
